“Podrinje Canton” is of great cultural richness, having a great number of cultural monuments in its construction, appearance, workmanship and originality. There are large numbers of monuments from different periods in development of mankind.
Necropolis in “Gorsic Polje”, municipality of Gorazde, is one of the rare monuments. “Gosric Polje” is part of Bosnia’s treasured heritage as it consists of 324 tombstones, which are protected by the ‘Commission for Preservation of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina’. The site gained international recognition in July 2016, during a conference in Istanbul, becoming listed as a world heritage site.
This necropolis is amongst 28 others, from four different countries, that are included on the UNESCO heritage list.
The necropolis is in its original state and until now no conservation work or restoration has been carried out.
